Job Description

Odyssey House Victoria offers two rounds of student intake, at the beginning of the year and then mid year. Applications can be submitted at any time but will be reviewed during December/January for semester 1 and June/July for Semester 2. 

We have finished accepting applications for the first half of 2024. We are currently accepting applications for placements for the second half of the year, commencing from August 2024.

 

 

Job Description

Student placement - Kids In Focus

Location

For this placement, you would be based at our Footscray but working outreach across all of Melbourne metropolitan area. Students on placement with KIF will need to have a driver’s license (either full or probationary license), Police check and current Working with Children’s check.

Eligibility

  • Master of Social Work
  • Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) with previous placement or relevant work experience

Masters’ students and or final year undergraduate students, with previous placement experience or relevant work experience are preferred.

As a student, you will shadow KIF clinicians on outreach visits providing case management for highly vulnerable families with problematic AOD use. The Kids In Focus team outreaches to families in a variety of settings. These include:

  • Home
  • Children’s Courts and Magistrates Courts across Melbourne
  • Child Protection offices across Melbourne
  • Hospitals
  • Schools and childcare centres
  • Other community settings

 

The student will have opportunities to observe and assist with the following outreach activities:

    • Assessment's including MARAM. FVISS & CISS & AOD comprehensive     
    • Case management, inclusive of attending care team meeting and professionals meeting.
  • Parenting strategies, support and psycho educational work
  • Liaising with other Sectors
  • Family support
  • Harm reduction discussions and relapse prevention support and strategies          
    • Supporting clients at court, medical appointments etc
    • Transporting clients
  • Referrals to other services including AOD treatment services.
  • Attend Team meetings.
  • Attend Team Clinical Supervision
  • Case noting under direction.

 

The student may also have the opportunity to:

•             Attend overnight therapeutic camp with children and families    

 

These opportunities will depend on the time of the placement and the student’s capability.
