First People’s Residential Pathway Clinician

 

  • Full-time, two year fixed-term.
  • Based at Richmond  
  • $99,631.02 per annum, plus super

Role Purpose:

The First People’s Residential Pathway Clinician is a newly created specialized position to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients to access Odyssey Victoria (OV) Residential Treatment programs in a culturally safe and streamlined way.

Duties include but are not limited to…

  • Discuss and support clients over the phone or in person to help them to understand what Residential Rehab is and how it might be helpful and challenging for them. Answer any questions or concerns they have.
  • Work with clients to gather information from them to ensure they will be a good fit with OV’s TCs and to make sure our TC teams have the information required to effectively work with them. This includes risk factors and all relevant assessment information.
  • Conduct assessments and make decisions around suitability for Therapeutic Community in a culturally sensitive way.
  • Check in with clients to support them whilst assessing their suitability, preparing for and facilitating their admission.
  • Provide clients with education regarding safety/harm reduction whilst living in the wider community.
  • Ensure high quality case management (where appropriate) and work with other organisations to support people seeking residential treatment with OV.

Who are WE looking for?


To be successful in this role, you must hold the below qualifications/experience…

  1. This is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people identified position
  2. Relevant Health, Social or Welfare related experience.
  3.  Formal qualifications at degree or Cert IV level would be viewed positively. Commitment to undertake Cert IV or Diploma in Alcohol or Other Drugs or the AOD Skill Set for Health Professionals within 12 months of employment * (Refer Appendix A)
  4. Demonstrated ability to engage clients in dialogue and develop a therapeutic relationship.
  5. The ability to work with difficult and demanding clients.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, be open to giving and receiving feedback, and recognise and resolve interpersonal conflict.
  7. Ability to take initiative and capacity to work independently, adapting to changing organisational needs.
  8. A comprehensive understanding of alcohol and drug substance abuse and some understanding of residential rehabilitation services.
  9. Strong organisational and highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) with a consultative approach to addressing issues.
  1. Ability to effectively liaise and communicate with a wide variety of agencies and individuals at various levels.

*Appendix A (AOD Competencies)

OV requires staff in clinical positions to have the following competencies (or their equivalent). Where people do not already have these competencies, OV will invest in the staff’s professional development by providing them through our registered training organisation (RTO).

The competencies required in the first 12 months of employment are:

  • CHCAOD001 – Work in an alcohol and other drugs context
  • CHCAOD004 – Assess needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues
  • CHCAOD006 – Provide interventions for people with alcohol and other drugs issues
  • CHCAOD009 – Develop and review individual alcohol and other drugs treatment plans

Safety screening

OV is committed to child safety and is a child safe organisation. All OV employees must undergo Police Records and Working with Children Checks. Any person issued with a negative notice on their Working with Children Check will not be eligible for employment with us.

Mandatory COVID vaccinations

In line with OV's Mandatory Vaccination Policy, all Odyssey Victoria staff are required to hold Fully Vaccinated (Boosted) status, having also received the Booster Vaccination. Evidence of this minimum of three (3) COVID-19 vaccinations will be requested during the onboarding process and offers will be rescinded where such evidence cannot be provided.

 

 

All Odyssey Victoria sites are smoke free for all employees.
