Role Purpose: 

The role is responsible for supporting the coordinator in the creation and maintenance of a safe therapeutic environment within both the voluntary and forensic group space. The key purpose of the Time for Change Day Program is to implement and review an evidence-based program that assists participants to establish healthier relationships and lifestyles free of problematic alcohol and drug use. The role also provides evidence-based interventions for clients mandated to engage in forensic AOD treatment streams both in individual engagement and group settings. The Case Manager & Group Facilitator is responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments, person centred planning, facilitating forensic & voluntary group programs. 

Key areas of focus:  

• Case find and engage suitable clients, including conducting complementary client assessments, to develop mutually agreed individual treatment plans (ITPs) and referrals as appropriate. 

• Assess the suitability of clients referred to the program and facilitate the intake and assessment process in collaboration with internal and external service providers.  

• Use best practice principals in all clinical work such as Family Inclusive Practice, Dual Diagnosis Principles, Trauma Informed Practice, etc.  

• Facilitate program information group sessions and access to accommodation support for clients expressing interest in attending the program.  

• Ensure that clients on a waitlist have Interim Support Plans to help clients avoid and better manage relapse.  

• Work with clients to develop, implement and review their individual treatment goals including aftercare plans.  

• Collaborate with existing service providers and facilitate referrals to other services as indicated.  

• Contribute to the development and implementation of program modules (developmental and life skills groups and activities) ensuring activities are planned in advance, materials are prepared in a timely fashion, groups are conducted, and being actively involved in the organisation and implementation of the schedule.  

• Participate in treatment team reviews, case reviews and other relevant meetings ensuring information and outcomes are current and accurate, and that all client files are up to date and maintained.  

• Support the work of the Coordinator TDR through regular reports on client progress, identifying possible areas of concern as and when they arise. · Ensure that the group-based program is planned and delivered in a timely, efficient, and effective way.  

• Collect and record client information including case notes, treatment plans, evaluation data, records of client attendance, etc.  

• Assist with the development of and deliver a manualised cognitive behavioural therapy program to clients inclusive of individual monitoring sessions for a smaller caseload of clients.  

• Contribute to the development and day to day operation of the Day Program through participation in selected social/recreational activities and modelling appropriate behaviour.  

• Facilitate a range of therapeutic and psycho-educational groups, including group interventions for families and significant others.  

• Demonstrate proficiency in the application of Motivational Enhancement and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies  

• Participate in ‘housekeeping’ activities that support the day-to-day operation of the program.  

• Plan, implement and facilitate other treatment activities, action meetings and special activities as negotiated with the Team Leader. 

• Assist in the appropriate referral and conjoint treatment of clients with specific or specialist needs by liaising with other treatment and community services to achieve the best possible treatment outcomes for clients. 

• Actively promote and adhere to the OV Child Safety policy and procedures to assist OV to maintain a Child Safe Organisation and support colleagues to engage in child safe practices. 

To be successful in this role, you must…  

1. Relevant Health, Social or Welfare related tertiary/degree qualifications with two-years’ experience or an Associate Diploma with relevant experience  

2. Excellent group therapy and case management skills along with the ability to work with difficult and demanding clients.  

3. A positive, friendly, and optimistic attitude  

4. Comprehensive understanding of alcohol and other drug use, and an understanding of community-based rehabilitation or day programs  

5. Demonstrated experience delivering quality outcomes for clients.  

6. Ability to show initiative and capacity to work independently, adapting to meet changing organisational needs.  

7. Strong organisational and highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) with a consultative approach to addressing issues.  

8. Ability and willingness to contribute and work effectively in a team environment.

OV requires people in clinical positions to have the following competencies (or their equivalent). Where people do not already have these competencies, OV will invest in the person’s professional development by providing them through its RTO.  

The competencies required in the first 12 months of employment are:  

• CHCAOD001 - Work in an alcohol and other drugs context  

• CHCAOD004 - Assess needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues.  

• CHCAOD006 - Provide interventions for people with alcohol and other drugs issues.  

• CHCAOD009 - Develop and review individual alcohol and other drugs treatment plans
