• $44.09 - $48.10 per hour, plus super.

About our Therapeutic Community – Circuit Breaker: 

The Duty Worker helps oversee the operation of the program. The key purpose of the position is to act as the first point of contact and provide an appropriate operational response to resident issues, following established procedures. The position liaises closely with staff and ensures effective communication with residents to foster therapeutic relationships and maintain an ongoing atmosphere of mutual acceptance and harmony within the facility.  

The Circuit Breaker Program (CB) is a short term 6-week residential treatment program in North Eastern Victoria. The program encourages individual motivation for change and provides support to clients in their recovery journey within a physically and psychologically safe environment. 

Role Purpose: 
Working under general guidance within clearly defined guidelines, this role undertakes a range of activities requiring the application of acquired skills and knowledge. Responsibility extends to the following functions which are defined by established routines, methods, standards, and procedures: 

Key areas of focus:  

• Implementing schedule of events for each day 

• Facilitating the functioning of the residential facility (including after hours and on weekends), ensuring appropriate communication and feedback is provided at all times. · Holding the staff keys and being the first point of contact for resident issues.  

• Facilitating group sessions, including managing conflict through the communique process.  

• Communicating relevant information to residents and effectively managing a variety of emotional responses from joy to distress through the application of therapeutic community (TC) interaction techniques (e.g., Directive, Encouraging, Supportive and Inconspicuous).  

• Implementing appropriate responses to events occurring within the program by consulting with senior and support staff where necessary.  

• Supporting the organisation of house activities for residents (e.g., games, music, art, other recreational activities).  

• Performing a variety of operational tasks adhering to day-to-day, evening and weekend schedules.  

• Providing handover to relevant staff and attending hand over meetings where appropriate. 

• Managing after hours petty cash in accordance with TC cash handling procedures. · Fulfilling duties of a First Aid Officer performing first aid in the workplace, as compensated through a FAO allowance. 

• Administering medication as prescribed, including organising emergency medical appointments, as necessary. 

• Keeping accurate administrative records as required.  

• Modelling appropriate behaviours and boundaries with residents.  

• Other duties as directed. 

A week in the role: 
If you were here last week, you would have:  

• Supported the senior residents in the daily running and tasks of the program as well as effectively de-escalate residents when in a heightened state of emotion.  

• Dispensed medication to residents. 

• Been present and active whilst on shift and engaged in recreational activities with residents.  

• Ran a conflict resolution group as needed.  

• Role modelled a high standard in line with the pillars and expectations of the program.  
   

Key Selection Criteria:  
We are looking for an experienced and passionate Duty work to help facilitate the day-to-day operations of Circuit Breaker.  

To be successful in this role, you must…  

1. Demonstrated ability to engage residents in dialogue and develop a therapeutic relationship to facilitate a meaningful TC experience.  

2. Ability to resolve conflict and work with difficult and demanding clients.  

3. Ability to take initiative and capacity to work independently, adapting to changing TC needs. 4. A comprehensive understanding of alcohol and drug substance abuse and an understanding of residential rehabilitation services.  

5. Strong organisational and highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) with a consultative approach to addressing issues.  

6. Demonstrated knowledge of record keeping methods, administrative procedures, confidentiality, and privacy protocols.  

7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, be open to giving and receiving feedback, and recognise and resolve interpersonal conflict. 

8. Be able to work shift work including evening’s weekends and night shifts
