The Provisional Psychologist works with OV clinicians to build their clinical practice knowledge in a supportive, supervised environment. The Provisional Psychologist is allocated a placement on the Psychology Team. They work alongside experienced psychologists who provide them with opportunities to learn, grow, be challenged, and share their thoughts and ideas, as well as providing clinical supervision.
Location
For this placement, you would be based at our Richmond location with visits to our Lower Plenty Residential Rehabilitation site.
Eligibility
Studying a Master/Doctor of Clinical Psychology, with current provisional AHPRA registration.
Assessment & Case Review (Residential Services)
Depending on level of experience and/or qualification:
Under PsyBA supervision, in consultation with the Service Development Manager and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, students will have the opportunity to observe, assist with, and undertake duties that promote improved case conceptualisation, resident engagement, and client retention through:
Direct Clinical Work and Clinical Consultation
- Undertaking psychological assessment and providing practical recommendations for evidence-based interventions/approaches for residents.
- Identifying, triaging, and providing recommendations to manage client-related risks (e.g., self-harm, interpersonal aggression, mental health, family violence, child safety) at an individual, community, occupational, and organisational level.
- Provision of clinical advice to staff working with clients accessing residential rehabilitation.
- Accurate and timely preparation of case notes, reports and other professional documentation.
- Effective communication with residents (and/or potential residents), families/carers, colleagues, and other stakeholders or service providers.
- Providing opinion regarding psychiatric diagnoses, psychometric and semi-structured assessments, feedback on process considerations and treatment planning considerations/advice.
- Contribution of expertise in clinical meetings and to improve service delivery.
- Building increased capacity for client management within the broader staffing group by providing psychological perspectives.
Professional Development
- Develop and demonstrate practice that supports a recovery approach to care.
- Effective participation in clinical supervision by actively giving and receiving feedback.
- Active participation in any student related professional development activities.
- Attendance and participation in psychology team meetings and peer supervision.
General
- Actively promote and adhere to the OV Child Safety policy and procedures to assist OV to maintain a Child Safe Organisation and support colleagues to engage in child safe practices.
- Adhere to site specific policies and procedures, including OH&S guidelines.
- Demonstrate ability to understand and apply inclusive practice when working with people from diverse communities, such as cultures, genders, sexualities, bodies, abilities, spiritualities, ages and backgrounds.
- Demonstrate understanding of the importance and application of intersectionality when working with people from all cultures, genders, sexualities, bodies, abilities, spiritualities, ages and backgrounds.
- Maintain up to date progress notes, case files and data entry.
- Adhere to and keeping informed of all relevant legislative compliance requirements and report any perceived breaches.
